Drugs for Parkinson's Disease
January 1, 2011 (Issue: 101)
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is caused primarily by progressive
degeneration of dopamine-containing neurons
in the substantia nigra. Dopamine itself cannot be
used to treat PD because it does not cross the blood-brain
barrier.
The Medical Letter is a subscriber-funded nonprofit organization that publishes critical appraisals of new prescription drugs and comparative reviews of drugs for common diseases.
